We presented ten E&J training sessions across the state serving 397 participants.  Four individuals were  trained to give the E&J presentations. We now have fourteen people trained across the state able to present these continuing ed courses.
We are interested in discussing, and researching using technology to reach more individuals.
We are in the process of updating the course material; thanks to Jeremy Keough for his work on the Jurisprudence course material. Thanks to all the presenters and those who helped me get acquainted with my responsibilities.

Suggestion from Jeremy: Although the online registration forms do a pretty good job capturing the data entered, it probably would be worthwhile to have each E&J presenter submit attendance data to the Chair for recording in a document/spreadsheet.

I would like to discuss /try suggestion as I had difficulty retrieving info for this report.

ANNUAL REPORT: Middle District
SUBMITTED BY: Terri Thompson, DROT, OTR/L, LPE

This year the TOTA Middle District held eight meetings and recessed for the summer months. Our average attendance between the regular meetings and the CarFit event and meetings was 22. In addition, an E&J workshop was offered on November 10th and was well attended.  We did not schedule a meeting for December secondary to a lack of member interest due to the holidays.

At our January 2010 meeting we will discuss plans for the year. We have also had requests from a few members to change the time and meet later at 5:30 or 6. I will send out a survey to the Middle District members and we can discuss the results at the January 2010 meeting as we plan for the coming year.

To continue to exhibit a positive income to offset expenses, it is recommended to obtain more members, facilitate on-line presentation of ethics and jurisprudence, continue with TOTA sponsored PAM courses, consider one large conference, consider at least one mini conference in each district.
It would appear expenses will continue to need to be budgeted for: management services; communication services; website management and development; lobbyist and other professional services; while planning for expenses for the large conference.

ANNUAL REPORT: Legislative Issues/Lobbyist
SUBMITTED BY: John Williams

Autism Legislation- In 2010 the Tennessee legislature will consider changes to the Autism Equity Act passed in 2006. A copy of the current law is attached [see handout provided at Annual Meeting]. The purpose of the law is to require insurance companies to cover the therapies needed by children with autism. The proposed legislation (which TOTA supports) would increase the age of the children for whom coverage is required from 12 to 18 and would state explicitly that Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) must be covered (in addition to PT, OT, and SLP therapies).
Supervision Rules- The rules governing supervision of OTA’s by OT’s become effective on January 19, 2010. These Rules were adopted by the Board of Occupational Therapy to implement the changes in the OT Practice Act made by the legislature in 2006. They have been “in the pipeline” for quite a while. The rule changes also relate to subjects other than supervision. [A summary of these changes was provided to the Annual Meeting attendees.]

ANNUAL REPORT: Tennessee Board of Occupation Therapy Examiners
SUBMITTED BY: Sandra Fletchall

As a member of the Tennessee Board of OT Examiners, I would like to inform the TOTA Executive Board at 11-19-2009 Examiners Board meeting information was received from the Attorney General’s Office that the new rules of supervision will go into effect 01-19-2010. I have been trying to obtain a copy of the new rules from the Attorney General’s office and as soon as I do, will share.

As the new rules of supervision become available, the website of TOTA may have a small article stating such with the website address for all to obtain the information. The Executive Board may need to decide if the website address is available only to the TOTA members vs all practitioners. Remember the health related boards website is available to all, where TOTA non-members can obtain the information.

For those that will be teaching/presenting the jurisprudence, please mark note of the timeframe for the new supervision rules.
